Like many amateur carpenters George Lewin found it impossible to cut a strait line through timber with a hand saw or even an electric saw. in 1975 he gave up trying to make a table instead set out to invent a simple bench that would guide the saw and hold timber still.
Once Lewin had the bench right he demonstrated it on a tv program. immediately hundreds of australians wanted to buy one. in 1976 he started to manufacture triton workcentres. George Lewin understood the problems of the amateur woodworker who wanted to make things and the workcentre is sold with a four hour video explaining how best to use it.
