Aussie Banknotes
|
In 1967, the CSIRO began to experiment with new materials for printing bank notes (paper money). in 1988, the worlds first polymer (plastic) bank notes were printed and issued to Australians. these $10 notes were tough, stayed clean longer, and worked well inside auto-teller machines. by 1996, all Australian bank notes were made of polymer. the notes had clear window containing a secret image, and were almost impossible to fake. by 1997, Australia was also printing billions of polymer bank notes for other nations.
