In 1800s blocks of ice were cut from frozen lakes in colder countries and were shipped to australia for ice boxes. evaporation gave inventor james harrison the idear for the worlds first ice making machine
Harrison owned a newspaper. he used a chemical called ether to wash off ink off the type in his printing presses. harrison noticed that ether evaporated quikly and made the metal type chilly. he wondered if ether could chill water into ice. in 1857 james harrison built the worlds first ice making machine.
